CLS Essay

So I'm applying for a scholarship at Crown, and its called Christian Leader Scholarship. Its all about how you are a leader in your church and at school and and how you can grow as a leader at Crown. So you fill out an application and have someone like a youth pastor or Christan worker at your church write a recommendation for you. Then they decide and if they think you can make a great leader at crown they invite to a special day where you automatically receive 1000 dollars and then you show up that day to try to increase your scholarship. The maximum award is full tuition paid. So i went on thursday and i had to write an essay and be interviewed. Man, it was intense and exhausting. I was so nervous becasue i communicate better than i can write but when time was up i had my essay finished and it was amazing how God spoke through me. So here it is

Paul has the same view on true leadership as I do. In 1 Corinthians 3:1-9 Paul says in order to be true Christian leaders, we need to stop being like the people of the world who fight and quarrel but instead stand up for Jesus and lead others to him. It shouldn’t matter where we come from or what church you belong to but we need to learn how to be leaders for Jesus. As followers of Jesus Christ we are called to make disciples. It doesn’t matter how long it takes for us to do it as long as we keep persevering. The one thing we cannot do though as leaders is fight over who brought who to Jesus. True leaders know that it’s not them that do the work its God and the Holy Spirit that works in that person. Verse 7 says “So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.” Only by the power of the Holy Spirit will a person come to know God.
Leadership and servant-hood work very closely together. A leader is a servant of God. Verse 6 says “And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe- as the Lord has assigned to each task.” John 12:26 says “Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.” As a follower of Christ I want to be a leader that serves God by doing what he asks of me. He asks me to make disciples, I will. He asks me to loves others, I will. As a leader I want to serve others by loving them, being kind to them, and encouraging them so that they might see Jesus through me.
I feel a proper leader will have many fruits. First of all, they will have the fruits of the spirit. Galatians 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control.” They will demonstrate love by loving others, even the most difficult people because; only when someone loves a person hard to love will they demonstrate their obedience to God. They will have joy even in the times of sadness, because “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.” James 2:2-3. A leader will have peace during times of worry. For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11. A true leader will have patience in times of frustration and anger. A leader will show kindness and goodness. An example of this would be encouraging someone like saying something nice someone or even letting that person know that they are being prayed for. Trustworthiness would be another quality found in a leader. A leader would be someone who is honorable and held to a higher standard than other people because they are a role model and people look up to them so they couldn’t do bad stuff. Even when they feel urge to swear or take part in bad behavior a leader should have self control.
In conclusion I think Paul views leaders as someone who stands out from the crowd because they follow Jesus and is not afraid to do what’s right. Leadership and servant-hood do work together because they have the same goals. A leader is someone who serves God and leads others to Him. A leader should possess the Fruit of the Spirit and demonstrate those qualities in everyday life.
